2525th hit~!
Well anyway.
Yesterday I woke up at 11am, went to Bengali School and came back at about 7.50pm. I'm pretty good at summarising things. Then, as I was watching T.V., I remembered that at 2am, Channel 5 was going to broadcast Pangea Day Live. The T.V. Guide didn't state until when it was gonna last. Anyway, since it started at 2am, I figured it would last AT LEAST 1 hour so I went to sleep at about 10.30pm so I could watch Pangea Day... attentively. But I woke up at 11pm and then I ate dinner. After that? Slept again. And woke up at 1.50am (alarm on my handphone).
Well, at first I didn't know the significance of Pangea Day. I just knew it had to do with the world and everything, like Live Earth, so I was SO interested in it.
So you ask, what is Pangea? I tell you. When all our 7 continents were one, it was called Pangea. Not Europe, not Asia, not even Eurasia, but Pangea. And last night, millions of people tuned in to watch this event. It was like a campfire. Everyone gathering around. Together. Watching the exact same thing. I was so glad and appreciative of the fact that Channel 5 gave such an excellent broadcast of this. But there were some pet peeves. For example, during the commercial breaks, instead of showing the "advertisements you won't usually see on T.V.", Channel 5 temporarily stopped the live broadcast and showed advertisements which... I always, not usually, see on T.V.. Not only that, but even though this show as all great and everything crap, Channel 5 had a very poor advertisement campaign... as in... let's just put it this way. I watch T.V. 24/7 but I have only seen ONE advertisement about Pangea Day. Tells you something, doesn't it? Live Earth's advertising was a million times better.
But anyway, the event was really great. Turns out that it was for four hours. I really enjoyed every bit of it. It was... exciting. And moving. Shall talk about that later. At 4.25am, the weather was very cooling and nice. At 4.26am, precisely, it was as if the trees and bushes on the ground was going to be uprooted. Like Cyclone Nargis in town. Oops. Touch wood.
ANYWAYY, it was prety freaky. Not only was it very very SUDDEN but it was also very powerful. I swear, I saw at least 12 plastic bags flying about in the sky. I even saw some clothes! You know what you see on T.V., when they show the premature stages of a hurricane, and the trees swinging from side to side wildly, that's what I saw. I was freezing too. But it didn't rain. Just strong strong winds. Well, not until 4.40am did it rain. Okay... so actually it still didn't rain but just that there was intense lightning-ing and thundering. More lightning-ing though. And what made it freakier was the fact that I was watchign Pangea Day and it's all about this 'pale blue dot' *quote 'An Inconvenient Truth' AND 'Pangea Day'* and all the problems here, be it terrorism, floods, cyclones, droughts, famines, bombings, poverty, whatever. All in this
pale.
blue.
dot.
The organisers of Pangea Day asked people from around the world that if they were given a few minutes of the world's attention, what would they say (okay, not exactly but something like that). So filmmakers from over 100 countries took part in this global event by submitting their own videos. In other words, Pangea Day is about bringing people from around the world to see the world through other people's eyes thru the universal language --- film. Even Nokia gave phones with cameras so that those who can't afford to, can still take videos. I have a few personal favourites, though it's pretty hard to choose, and I didn't watch some (P.S. I fell asleep at 5.30am. Aw shucks. I wanted to see how they were gonna end the event. Badly.).
